Full of Hope

Only a couple of days into “Hungry for a Cure” and it’s already been a crazy food week (and bound to get crazier).  Monday was a full blown pig-out.  I covered a new restaurant for Society Life’s “Where Locals Go” – the much-anticipated City Hall Restaurant in Keller (full review in April’s issue)— and two hours later, we we’re scooping the day’s last batch of milkshakes (wow, Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookie shakes with chocolate vodka – TDF) and downing burgers covered in Quincy’s spicy pickles at Twisted Root Burger Co.

As I write this, I’m bracing myself for what should be another delightful visit to Coal Vines.  I can’t hype up their appetizers enough, though I’ve certainly tried these past few weeks on Facebook to drum up attention for their “Hungry for a Cure” day on March 23rd.  What I love most about their nifty starters is their unapologetic departure from standard pizzeria fare, while still being totally in sync with the spirit of the coal-fired pies.  I don’t think “crab cakes” or “seared tuna” when I think of most pizza joints, but Coal Vines can pull it off.  If we get the kind of crowd we’re hoping for, it should be a lively evening of good neighbors, good food, all eating for a good cause.

Don’t forget, Nelsons gets their turn at “Hungry for a Cure” on Thursday.  Breakfast for a cure is such a healthy way to start your day.  Friday is Trio’s turkey sandwich day, but more on that later.

I hope you’re as hungry as I am.
