Hungry for Hope

I’d like to toast the outpouring of goodwill at the Hope Charity Auction and Gala at the Texas Motor Speedway.  Goodwill and generosity is thrilling to witness in person, and it was all channeled to an exemplary cause.  I’m not sure what the final tally will be for the Community Storehouse that evening, but I can assure you that every cent raised will be laser-focused on helping thousands of people in our community.  What an inspiration!

The event, and the evening’s big-platform spirit of benevolence, has really spurred on our own cause: to help raise funds and awareness for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).  There’s so much news on this front, beginning with our upcoming good-eats event we’re calling “Hungry for a Cure”.  We’ve asked some of our favorite nosh spots in DFW to help us advance the life-saving mission of LLS.  For about two weeks starting March 22, you can eat well, support local businesses, and help a worthy charity.  So far, we’re thrilled to announce the participation of these fine establishments:

Cowboy Chow

LeSara Cupcake Bar

Nothing Bundt Cakes

Trio Cafe and Bakery

Twisted Root Burger Co.

We'll announce more restaurants soon.  But every one of them represents the type of establishment we love supporting: homegrown, well-integrated in their neighborhoods, locally connected, and foodie-conscious.  Each one of our participants has generously donated a portion of their sales to LLS, and we want to give them props individually.  Keep checking back as I spotlight more good eats from great restaurants.  This time, we'd like to give a shout-out to one of our favorite family-run businesses:

LeSara Cupcake Bar, Colleyville – Wow, do these guys know how to make a cupcake!  And I’m glad to say the buzz is spreading.  Cupcakes were flying out the door on Saturday, and every last one sold out just after lunch.  Even the gluten free ones were gone which, by the way, if no one had told me they were gluten free I’d think they were simply darn good cakes.  Dan and Susan Lott personify mom-and-pop business chutzpah, and they could not be more gracious hosts.  I think it truly pained them to drop the bomb on latecomers that they had sold out for the day.  (And I think it pained customers to hear that they’d missed out on a killer cupcake fix).  The Lotts take great pride in the quality of their product, and their limited quantities only punctuate the care put into every cupcake.  If you’ve gotta have ‘em (and trust me, you do) then it’s a good idea to pre-order.  Keep these dates in mind: Tuesday, March, 29 through Saturday, April 3.

On another note, my wife and I completed the Cowtown 10K!  I never imagined just a month ago when we started our marathon training that I would be running (and walking) this distance in such a truncated timeframe.  The exhiliration at the finish line was something I'd never felt before, and I can only imagine what it must feel like at the full marathon level.  We're even more determined now to cross the finish line in Seattle, and we're so humbled that businesses like LeSara are helping us bring attention to the superlative work of the LLS.
